Meet Our Assistant Principal

Ms. Shantelle Yarbrough

Ms. Yarbrough was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. It was her educational experiences as a child at P.S 21 that shaped and molded her. It was Dr. Renee Young’s exemplary leadership and Mr. Ariel Lajara’s mentorship that inspired Ms. Yarbrough to pursue the field of educational leadership. Ms. Yarbrough has over 9 years of experience in the field of education in Philadelphia and neighboring school districts. Accompanied by the fact that she is the mother of 1, a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, a member of SDP’s Equity Coalition;  Ms. Yarbrough brings a clear understanding of how to properly bridge the achievement gap and support our scholars, families and educators; and a proven commitment to the education of minority students.

Ms. Yarbrough attended the prestigious Lincoln University where she received her Bachelors Degree in History with a Black Studies minor in 2011, Master of Early Childhood Education Degree in 2013, as well as a Master of Educational Leadership Degree. Education is extremely important to Ms. Yarbrough. Her dedication to the field and her scholars goes without saying. She believes that every child, no matter their socio-economic status, deserves equitable educational opportunities.

Affectionately known as “Ms. Y”, Ms Yarbrough started her educational career as an Assistant Teacher, and later as a Grade Tutor at a well known charter school in Chester. She also served as the Director and curriculum writer of a fairly large Early Childhood Educational facility in Delaware County, PA in which she oversaw the Pre K Counts program. Ms. Yarbrough started her journey at the School District of Philadelphia as a 1st grade, and later as a 3rd grade teacher at the Hon Luis Munoz Marin Elementary School under the leadership of Mr. Ariel Lajara. She then became the SBTL (School Based Teacher Leader) at Steel School, where she now serves as the Assistant Principal.
